About the QuilterTerry WallaceTerry has been quilting for 20 years. She took her first class at a community college where her first quilt was a primary color sampler quilt that was hand quilted. Terry has designed and created over 70 quilts since that first class. Most of these quilts were hand-quilted and given as gifts to celebrate births, weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. She is mostly self-taught and believes she has never met a quilt book she didn't like. In recent years, Terry has become a prolific piecer and has found that her collection of tops was growing. In 2001, she discovered longarm quilting and purchased a Gammill Optimum. Hardly a birthday or special occasion goes by that her family does not receive a quilt. No one in her family will ever freeze to death. Terry's first love is hand quilting and she is currently designing a red and green applique quilt that she will hand quilt. It will be a wedding present for her nephew who is four years old. She hopes she has enough time to complete it!! Traditional patterns and designs are her first love, but she is spreading her wings into new styles and techniques. When challenged on the use of a longarm machine as being outside the bounds of traditional quilting, Terry remembers her first quilting class. Several ladies in the class refused to machine piece, preferring to hand piece because that was the tradition. The teacher told the class that if our great grandmothers had had sewing machines, they would have used them. Terry views the longarm in the same way. Not only does the longarm allow Terry to create more quilts, she also feels it provides additional durability so the quilts can be enjoyed for generations to come. Terry and her husband Bill make their home in Silver Bow, Montana, with their 5 horses, 2 dogs and 3 cats. When she is not focusing on her business, Wild Horse Quilts, she and Bill can be found horseback riding or fly fishing. |
